Thursday July 9th

Today we skipped school (for one of my two allowed absences) and went to Croatia!! The airport is about a 35 minute drive, and with an early flight, public transportation is not that reliable. My friends and I ended up having a sleepover at her homestay. Another girl and I felt we were at the Ritz considering they had air conditioning. I thought it was so kind of her host mother to have us over, and it was a very short taxi ride to the airport.

Our flight left early, and we landed in Dubrovnik around 11:00am. I had heard great things about Dubrovnik, and I had been to Croatia before— but NEVER could I have imagined how UNBELIEVABLY BEAUTIFUL the city is. Our Croatia trip could not have been better!! We are still in shock of how smooth it went.
As soon as we got off of our plane, a guy from the hostel was holding a sign with my name. We had about a 20 minute drive to the hostel. It was my first time staying in a hostel, and I didn’t really know what to expect. It was actually the BEST THING EVER. The staff was hysterical, and unbelievably nice. The property was about a 15 minute drive from old town, but WE LOVED IT. The hostel had a ping pong table downstairs, a small bar, an outside pool and hot tub, and patio area. Our room was great!! 4 twin beds, super clean and a little kitchenette and bathroom… best part was the absolutely stunning view from our balcony. I still can’t get over it.

walking to the restaurant from our hostel

The view from our window/ outside porch!

We had to wait a little while to check in, so we walked down the road to a really cute restaurant down the street. I had a salad, which was so fresh, and tasty! Later we took a shuttle into old town— AND I’M OBSESSED. We had a great time walking through the fortress walls, taking pictures and enjoying the gorgeous view. One of our friends from the hostel, Diego joined us too. We also went to Buza Bar to grab a drink, and met some of his other friends there too. The bar is on the edge of a cliff, and it has a spectacular view of Lokrum island. It was fun— a lot of people cliff jumped from there too. Later we grabbed the most amazing pizza as a big group. It was so fun meeting other young people from all around the world. We ended up going to the little restaurant down the street again that night, because we were waiting for our friend to arrive. It was a great day!

There were beautiful hydrangeas in bloom everywhere!
